Drinking cups & dental health – What parents should know

Your little one is growing – and with each new milestone, it gets more exciting! One of these big steps is the transition from a bottle to a cup.

Most parents turn to so-called training or "learning" cups. But did you know that choosing the right cup can also have a major impact on your child's dental health?

At HEORSHE, we paid close attention when developing our Dental Care Sippy Cup – literally: to the order in which the teeth come.

What makes our drinking cup so special?

Our clever innovation is the specially shaped drinking straw with a small "wing" structure. It sounds simple, but it's ingenious:

This small addition helps to distribute the suction pressure evenly – so the teeth and jaw are put under less strain when drinking.

This means: less pressure, less incorrect loading – and healthier tooth and jaw development for your child.

When is the right time to switch?

You can offer your child the drinking cup before their first birthday.

Between 12 and 24 months at the latest, it is time to slowly say goodbye to the bottle.

Important: The sippy cup should only be offered when your child is really thirsty or at mealtimes – this helps prevent overdrinking.

And: This step, too, is just a phase. The transition from the training cup to the open cup should happen as quickly as possible, as soon as your child is ready.

Healthy drinking habits made easy

Here are a few simple tips on how to use the drinking cup in an everyday way that is gentle on your teeth:

  • It's best to offer water between meals. This protects tooth enamel – completely sugar-free.
  • Only give milk or fruit juice with meals. When eating, the body produces more saliva, which protects the teeth from acid and sugar.
  • Only drink water to help your child fall asleep. If your child falls asleep with milk or juice in their mouth, it can cause permanent damage to their teeth.
  • No drinking while walking or playing. While it's convenient, walking and drinking at the same time poses a risk of injury.

Conclusion: Drink smart, grow healthy

Switching from a bottle to a cup is a big step – and a great opportunity to encourage healthy drinking habits right from the start.

With the HEORSHE drinking cup you not only support your child's independence, but also their dental health.
